Seas Triangle

almo context

The most recent endeavour. The result of clearing out unused drivers from the store room after the decision to wind down hifi exploration. These are 43 ltr sealed enclosures using the seas fa22 unit together with a fostex FT17 high frequency unit with a passive filter. The design was influenced by a triangular plan speaker I had seen at the UK diyaudio show in 2007. Basically an exercise in seeing how a triangular plan speaker might influence the sound.

In order to get the 60 degree joints to line up it was thought prudent to cut some supports to assist glueing.

Completing

This combination gives a surprisingly open sound with precise imaging. This has proven so beguiling that it's been the goto speaker for low wattage amps since construction. A relatively simple build(needs a router and a table saw) with modest units, thoroughly recommended.

Unfortunately the usual baltic birch ply was unobtainable at the time of building, at least it was at a resonable price. This build entered the realms of risk by using untested hardwood ply which turned out to be less than satisfactory. The top layer(finish) of the ply was wafer thin and any attempt at sanding revealed the second layer, which was unsightly. C'est la vie.
